So...I tried something new today. A beautiful friend of mine, who struggles with digestive issues like me, told me about this months ago but I never got around to doing it. I have to admit that the first minute was the hardest. I thought I was going to spit it out everywhere but as the coconut oil liquified it became bearable. Oil Pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that helps eliminate toxins and bacteria in your mouth. Benefits include whiter teeth, pinker gums and it fights bad breath. I have read that it may speed up metabolism, help with acne, clear sinuses and give you energy. Who wouldn't want to do this..right?
I started with coconut oil as its what I had in the cupboard and I use it in all my recipes. I thought the taste would be as good as any of my coconut treats I create, or NOT! After the first minute of chewing the chunks out it became liquified and there was basically no taste. I kept myself distracted by doing the dishes, making my breakfast smoothie and getting dressed.
Heres how to do it:
- put 1 tablespoon of organic coconut or sesame oil in your mouth.
- swoosh it around for 15-20 minutes
- spit it out into the toilet
- brush your teeth after
Check back in in a few weeks for my results.
