Good things can come out of the saddest of moments! One thing i have learned over the years is that everything happens for a reason. And although it may seem impossible, try to find one positive thing out of something bad. I know, it sounds impossible to do but after years of practice, I think it's working for me. And trust me, it may take years to find the positive or the reason of why it happened but when you do, it changes your perspective and outlook on life.
Almost 3 years ago, I lost a close friend of mine. It was heart breaking. Something I could never imagine would happen to anyone I knew, happened to the sweetest, most caring and loving person. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Tara or what happened to her.
On the 1 year anniversary of her death I got a tattoo done of the quote that was on her gravestone. It says: To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.
I didn't do this as a memorial for Tara, I did this to live on the words she lived her life by. I did this as a reminder to myself that I want to make a difference in peoples lives. I want my life to mean something and that means doing something to help someone else.
After pondering for a bit, to ensure I was ready for the commitment, I signed up to be a big sister. It wasn't a hard decision. I love kids and knew the impact I could have making someone smile for the few hours a week. I knew it would change my life and hopefully theirs too. Although its been a long journey for them to find me a little sister, I am lucky to say it has happened!! :) This Saturday I have my first one-on-one play date. I am so excited and honoured to get to do this. What an adventure it is going to be!!
So I pass this on to all of you - whose life could you make breath easier?
for Tara xo
